VPI Pet Insurance Review |

My wife and I recently had a three year bout with two of our dogs that had cancer. Unfortunately both died but in this run of surgery and consultations and drugs we spent thousands of dollars on veterinary care for our two dogs. When we bought two more dogs being young and hyper they had a few minor injuries while playing that required visits to the vet. After this expense ran up I decided that Pet Insurance was something we should look into. I hated making decisions about x-rays etc based on cost and probability that we would find problems.

VPI Pet Insurance After some investigation we decided to try VPI Pet Insurance mainly because our vet and the emergency vet had brochures and we trust them. They had known many customers with VPI Pet Insurance and they seemed happy so that's how we made our decision. Enrolling our three dogs took some time and one dog was declined due to a low platelet condition. My 9 year old Siberian Husky and 10 month old Siberian Husky were enrolled. I pay about $35 per month for each dog and on my younger dog that includes double cancer insurance.
My youngest dog cracked her tooth which required that it be removed. The total bill for the surgery was about $300.00. My wife submitted our claim to VPI Pet Insurance and about ten weeks later we received a check for $213.00 We expected our $50 deductible but were not sure exactly what VPI Pet Insurance would cover. Turns out they cover about 2/3 the expense. For me this seems fair given the monthly cost of the pet insurance. I can't say that 2/3 is what you'll always get but if you are considering Pet Insurance or were wondering about VPI Pet Insurance at least you'll know our experience. As with other pet insurance policies you pay up front and then wait to be reimbursed. This would be a real pain with pet medical expenses in the thousands of dollars but its certainly better than not having Pet Insurance and not being able to do everything you can for your dog or cat.
