Windows Roaming and Terminal Services Profiles are Corrupt

Corruption in Windows Roaming and Terminal Services profiles can be caused by many things.  Network disruptions due to bad drivers or faulty hardware is one major cause.  Another cause that is often overlooked are shared folders that have off-line caching enabled.  Because this is the default on Windows 2000 servers I would recommend checking this out first.

To determine if caching is enabled open up the Computer Management snap-in from the MMC Console.

Under System Tools in the Shares section find the share where the profiles are stored.

Right click the share, choose properties.

Click the Caching button

Uncheck the box marked “Allow caching of files in this shared folder”
