Black Woods Grill - Otsego Minnesota
The Black Woods Grill in Otsego fills a long awaited gap in fine dining in the Northwestern Suburbs of the Twin Cities Metro Area. This HUGE restaurant is the second in a chain with its prior being located in Duluth Minnesota. Aside from a great atmosphere and great food the service really sets the Black Wood Grill apart from other restaurants. During the opening the staff from Duluth came down to train in the local staff. The service levels were high with staff paying constant attention to your needs. What I like about their methods is that they divide up the wait staff into separate tasks. One person was monitoring our drinks, another serving the delicious bread and garlic infused olive oil while our main waitress saw to our orders. The restaurant is also a conference center which holds a lot of wedding receptions. Because its done in a separate wing of the building it doesn't interfere with your dining experience. The Black Woods Grill is made up of several separate and each unique dining rooms. Outdoor patio seating is also available. Each room has a theme and a different feel so visiting multiple times is never boring.
One of the most unique parts of the place is the men's bathroom. Ice is regularly poured in the bottom of the stand up urinals. At face level is a window for each person to see into the lobby as they relieve themselves. The one way glass is hilarious as you watch the visitors. The bar is a more casual atmosphere more like a high end sports bar. The restaurant has model trains running along the ceilings making a circuit throughout the restaurant.
